Can You Eat Potatoes On The Mediterranean Diet?
French fries get a bad reputation and they’re made of potatoes… So does that mean all potatoes should be off limits on the Mediterranean diet? Well, not exactly.
Potatoes are actually a nutritious starchy vegetable that can absolutely be part of a healthy diet. The important things to keep in mind are how the potatoes are prepared, and portion sizes.
- Potatoes are a great source of potassium. They also contain some fiber and vitamin C.
- Potatoes provide our bodies with primarily carbohydrates which are a source of quick energy.
- We want to pair these types of food with a source of protein and healthy fats to keep us full longer and balance blood sugar levels.
On the Mediterranean diet, all foods are included. So the good news is, if you love potatoes (who doesn’t?!) then you can continue eating them on the Mediterranean diet.
